Chronicle of the First Day after the Impact

When two worlds collided, only the Island remained. And the sound.

On a night no survivor will ever forget, two celestial bodies collided over the primordial ocean and tore the sky from end to end. The shockwave swept away entire continents, wiped out cities, raised volcanoes from the seabed and left behind a single piece of solid ground: the Island, with thirty-five kilometers of beaches, forests, swamps, plateaus and still-smoking craters. You wake up on the wet sand, seeing nothing but darkness, hearing the waves in front of you, the wind in the foliage to your left and a distant howl that seems to be getting closer. In The Collision, every step, every beast, every ally and every enemy is perceived through three-dimensional sound. There is no screen to decipher: there is an entire world to be heard, explored and conquered, fully accessible to blind people, people with low vision and anyone willing to close their eyes and trust their ears.

The territories

The Biomes of the Island

Six territories were born from the fury of the impact, each with its own soundscape, its dangers and its riches. Choose a biome to hear a sample of its environment and read the complete tactile description of how it sounds, how it is traversed and what you can find there.

Paisagem do bioma Castaways' Beach

Castaways' Beach

A long strip of dark sand, covered with the wreckage of ships torn from the ocean by the shockwave. This is where every new survivor opens their eyes for the first time.

On Castaways' Beach the sound of the waves is your first ally: it always tells you where the sea is, and therefore where the south of the Island lies. Walking on wet sand, your steps sound muffled; on the wooden hulls, they ring hollow. Giant crabs snap their claws among the rocks, seagulls dive announcing schools of fish, and the first dry branches and flint stones can be gathered for your first campfire. It is the safest region on the Island, ideal for learning to use the sound radar and the audio compass before venturing inland.

Total acoustic immersion

The technology of three-hundred-sixty-degree sound

The heart of The Collision is a spatial audio engine built from scratch so that players know exactly where everything is without needing to see. When a beast moves to your right, its sound begins in the right earphone, grows fuller as it approaches and changes timbre as it passes behind you. The proximity echo reveals stone walls, fallen trunks and riverbanks before you stumble into them. When you press the S key, the sound radar sweeps thirty meters around you and announces, in order of distance, everything nearby: resources, creatures, other survivors and shelters. With the G key you lock onto an audio target, and a continuous pulse begins guiding you, like a talking compass, to the chosen destination. All of this works with ordinary stereo headphones, right in the browser, with nothing to install.

Stories from those who survive by sound

Blind players, players with low vision and sighted players tell, in their own words, what it is like to explore, fight and trade in a world where no one depends on their eyes.

“For the first time in my life I joined an online game without asking anyone for help. On the first night I spent a whole hour just walking along the beach, listening to the waves and finding out where the rocks were. Today I forge spears for half of my clan, and nobody knows, nor needs to know, that I can't see.”
Mariana CostaBlind player, São Paulo
“The S key radar changed everything for me. In other games I was always lost trying to read tiny letters on the screen. Here I hear where every beast and every friend is, and I can plan ambushes with my group like any other player. The combat is truly fair.”
Rafael AlmeidaLow-vision player, Recife
“I started playing with my eyes closed out of curiosity and never opened them again. It is amazing how sound builds the whole world inside your head. I made friends with blind players who are now the best hunters on the server and who taught me to listen in a way I never imagined possible.”
Lucía FernándezSighted player, Montevideo
